X+Why is an innovative, entrepreneurial and environmentally responsible business that provides flexible workspace for small to medium sized organisations, with a mission to promote business as a force for good. The facilities developed within the Grafton Centre will be their first outside London and will provide 2,000sqm of space within two converted shop units.
The scheme exposes the existing coffered concrete ceilings and new services. Natural materials such as timber, cork and felt will sit alongside the more industrial materials such as concrete and metal.
Our proposals involved creating two new frontages; one to the main concourse, the other to the rear yard as a means of maximizing natural light and animating the surroundings. Our designs seek to provide a professional and healthy work environment, but with an edge; a place where you feel comfortable in the way you might at home – a subliminal invitation to take your shoes off; but also a place with a vibe that challenges you to take time away from the screen to have a coffee with a colleague.
