Our scheme for five new apartments on Broad Street in Ely replaces a dilapidated workshop and showroom. The scheme provides a more suitable and attractive setting at the edge of Cherry Hill Park and the Cathedral Gardens, onto which the development backs.
A new pitched-roof building facing Broad Street provides two apartments within a two-storey building that repairs the street frontage. To the rear, a modest new barn-like structure contains three further dwellings, each containing living rooms at ground floor and bedrooms on a mezzanine within the roof-lit vaulted ceilings.
The site is located in the Ely Conservation Area, by the Castle Mound. The L-shaped form of the building creates an enclosed and private landscaped courtyard, shared between the new and existing dwellings.
