This competition-winning scheme for Clare Castle Country Park involved the refurbishment of the Goods Shed to provide a community hall and interventions within the landscape of the Scheduled Ancient Monument to aid orientation within the park and promote a better understanding of the setting.

We received planning permission, listed building consent and Scheduled Ancient Monument approval for our proposals and secured stage 2 Heritage Lottery Funding. Our proposals included the repair and renovation of the railway Goods Shed, as well as interventions into the medieval landscape.

Clare station is the only station built within the bailey of a castle. The buildings are Grade 2 listed and include the only surviving examples of an 1865 Goods Shed. The Goods Shed, seen here in a photo from 1967, was developed as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.
