Owers Warwick Architects were appointed to refurbish and extend a large, prominent office building on Southwark Street, London.

The building originally comprised three properties; two Victorian warehouses and one building constructed in the 1980s. All were redeveloped in 2001 when a skin of render covered the façade.

Our proposals completely reposition the old, outdated building. Our design includes remodelling the façades and extending with a new sixth floor. Internally the works include creating a new, lettable lower ground floor, new core and toilets, a large cycle centre together with a remodelling of the floor plates.

The scheme delivers an uplift of over 1,000m2 NIA.

Our commitment to sustainability include:

  • Retaining the embodied energy of the existing structure,
  • Improving significantly the building fabric,
  • Bringing considerably more natural light into the building floorplates
  • Upgrading and introducing low energy services strategy,
  • PV to the roof
  • Encouraging cycling through the cycle centre
  • Minimising lift uses by creating an attractive light filled staircase to circulate through the building
